Interview with Christian Fehrlin

What we wanted to know from Christian, our Founder and CEO

What's the vision for Deep Impact and what did Christian want to become as a child? Learn this and more in our interview with him.

Which projects would you like to have done yourself?
There are two projects: the websites for Graubünden Tourism and Swiss Airlines.

Why and how did you start with Deep Impact 7 years ago? And what does the name mean?
I have always been self-employed. After leaving my old company, I wanted to start something new, with a focus on implementing my own ideas. In other words, to leave an impact. For me, it has always been important to do something that leaves a mark. And that's how the name was born and became our guide. We don't just want to leave an impact for ourselves but also for our customers in the project business.

What did you want to become as a child? Did you know early on you wanted to be self-employed?
No. Like every child, I wanted to be a pilot. Because my grades weren't good enough, I did an apprenticeship as a draftsman. But technology and communication have always fascinated me. The internet is perfect for that because it combines both.

Was it clear from the start that you wanted to build your own ventures?
We had plans for our own ventures from the beginning. But first, we needed to build the core business so we had the capital to work on the ventures.

What does the ideal working day look like for you?
Working creatively with the team on a solution and pushing the limits of what is possible is very satisfying.

And what is your idea of a perfect holiday?
Generally, I find holidays overrated. But discovering new and exciting countries is certainly something I enjoy doing. I love getting to know new cultures and people. Japan is at the top of my list at the moment. That's where I really want to travel to.

What are you most proud of?
The fantastic team we have created over the last 7 years. Working with people who push the boundaries of what is possible almost every day is very cool, and I am very proud of that. Of course, I am also proud of what we have achieved technologically.

What is the most thrilling outlook concerning the future of Deep Impact?
We have reached the point where we need to scale and professionalise our ventures. We’re entering a completely new territory, and I’m really looking forward to it.

We work for companies that outsource their digital innovation projects to us. We open up new digital market potentials and help to grow in new or disruptive product segments in less than 6 months.
